How the calculator works
Estimates multiply per-guest costs — food, drinks, stationery, favours — by your guest numbers, then add the flat costs that don’t grow with the list: decor, venue, photography, outfits, beauty, music, cake and transport. A 5% contingency goes on top. Prices are mid-points of ranges published by Ghanaian wedding guides and vendors in 2024–2026, for three styles of wedding.
We show a range rather than one number on purpose: a single figure would read like a quote, and it isn’t one. Your real numbers come from written quotes — take three per category, with both dates and the guest count stated.
Why the split looks different from foreign guides
International budget guides give the venue about a fifth of the money. In Ghana the engagement is often at the family home and receptions are held in gardens, halls and hotels at lower hire costs — while decor, which transforms those spaces, takes far more. Our white-wedding split gives decor 20% and the venue 8%. For the engagement, the list and its cash items take about 35%.
Before you pay anyone
A 30–50% deposit is normal; paying in full months ahead buys you nothing. Pay only to the business details on a vendor’s profile, never to a new number sent in chat, and keep every receipt. Common questions
How much does a wedding cost in Ghana?
It depends most on guest numbers and style. Recent Ghanaian price guides put a modest white wedding and reception at about GH₵25,000–50,000 for 50–80 guests, a mid-range one at GH₵60,000–150,000 for 100–200 guests, and premium weddings above GH₵200,000. A traditional engagement commonly costs GH₵15,000–40,000, with the list itself often GH₵10,000–30,000.
How much is wedding catering per guest in Ghana?
Accra caterers commonly quote about GH₵150–250 per guest for a standard menu and GH₵250–450 for premium, with small chops around GH₵80 per guest, in 2025–2026 published prices. Drinks are usually priced separately.
How should we split a wedding budget in Ghana?
Ghanaian weddings spend differently from international guides: decor often takes about a fifth of the budget while the venue is nearer 8%. Our default split for the white wedding is food 23%, decor 20%, photo and video 9%, venue 8%, the bride's outfits 8%, drinks 5%, MC and music 5% and contingency 5%, with the rest across rings, attire, beauty, cake, transport, stationery and souvenirs.
Is the engagement list part of the wedding budget?
Budget it as its own line. It is traditionally carried by the groom's family, and it is the cost most likely to surprise you, because you cannot price it until the bride's family gives you the list.
How do I convert a Ghana wedding budget to pounds or dollars?
The calculator shows approximate pounds and dollars at the Bank of Ghana interbank mid-rate for 22 September 2026 — about GH₵15.42 to £1 and GH₵11.57 to $1. Forex bureaus charge more, so leave a margin if you are sending money from abroad.
